Author: Small Plates
Culinary
enthusiast and self-taught cook, Jamie Jameson has devoted considerable
time over the years striving to cook interesting food and searching
for exceptional meals. From Alice Waters to Massimo Bottura to Grant
Achatz, Jameson has tasted the food of cutting edge, Michelin-starred
chefs as well as scores of innovative restaurant kitchen newcomers.
Living
in Washington D.C. prior to Sarasota and making frequent trips to
New York City and Los Angeles, as well as numerous culinary visits
to Italy, Sicily, Greece, Spain, Portugal, England and France, he
developed an intense appreciation of well prepared food, both refined
and rustic.
Reading
M.F.K. Fisher, Elizabeth David, and Molly O’Neil, home cooks
who wrote about “the art of food and the taste of living”
was another major influence. Their books seemed more like literature
than traditional cookbooks to Jameson, who savored their words as
much as the food they wrote about. Inspired by those iconic food
writers and contemporary, creative chefs, Jameson continues to refine
his cooking style and the way he thinks and writes about food.
Jameson’s
latest book Small Plates reflects his keen interest in
cooking, sense of simplicity, and fondness for delightful flavor
combinations. More than that, it gives a glimpse into how he actually
thinks in the kitchen as he puts together 50, tasty, artfully-composed,
small plates.
Before
the book, there was: a master’s degree in theater and television
from Ohio State University; television production in New York City;
Jameson Broadcast in Washington DC, a company he founded along with
his wife Trulee Jameson to produce promotional programming for national
publications, trade associations and media companies – clients
included Mother Earth News, Prevention, Family Circle, American
Health, and Old Farmer’s Almanac magazines, The Greek Tourist
Organization, CompuServe, AOL and the ABC and NBC Television Networks.
